Giving Back | Operation Stand Down Rhode Island

We’re proud to announce $500 from sales has been donated to local organization, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI). Founded in 1993 OSDRI is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded by former United States Marine, Anthony DeQuattro.

Their mission is to strengthen the veteran community by providing crucial wrap-around services for homeless and at-risk veterans. Those services include supportive transitional housing, intensive care management, basic human needs assistance such as food and clothing, and an employment training and placement program. OSDRI serves Active Duty Military Personnel, National Guard, Reservists, Veterans and Military Families.

Surprising Statistics:

  • The leading causes of homelessness among veterans are PTSD, social isolation, unemployment, and substance abuse.*
  • Veterans account for 100% of homeless adults in the U.S.*
  • Veterans often have a problem finding a job due to a combination of factors that may or may not include mental or physical problems and substance abuse. Statistics show that unemployment is the primary reason for veteran poverty and homelessness in the US.*
  • Affordable healthcare is also a great issue–according to the New Harvard-Public Citizen Study around 1.53 million veterans are uninsured and 2 million can’t afford healthcare.*

Where Our Donation Goes:
In 2020…
88 Veteran Families Housed in OSDRI owned units
2,000+ Veterans Households served
1,000,000+ Retroactive VA Distability Benefits Recovered for Veterans
300 over 600,000+ in Temporary Rental Assistance/Veteran Households
460 served by OSDRI’s Legal Program
150+ Veterans participated in OSDRI’s Pandemic Response Stand Down Weekend
200+ Veteran and Veteran spouses received Employment and Training Assistance

Claritea Kombucha for those Spring Allergens

Our take on Clariton® for the spring pollen that seems to be raining down on us ever more each year. I recently heard from the science podcast “Shortwave” that each year the co2 in the atmosphere increases, the plants create more pollen. I’m not sure what causes us to have a reaction to it, but we’ve had some success using some natural remedies.

Enter… the Claritea Kombucha: Pineapple, Beet, and Nettle Extract

Nettle is a powerful antihistamine. Whenever my eyes are itchy or the sneezing starts, I make some nettle tea right away or take some dropper fulls in the mouth from an extract. If we were going to make a limited spring kombucha, I knew this had to be included. I’ve been telling everyone about my success with it and others have found it as well. Nettle grows all around us and can be found in spring. Gather some up and make tea or soup for some relief and be careful handling it. The prickly hairs on Nettle can sting you and temporarily cause a burning sensation.

Pineapple was chosen for its Bromelain. This chemical is great for helping the body remove mucus and phlegm. Along with the power of Beet Juice, which increases blood flow and Nitric Oxide levels in the body, this Kombucha could give you a helpful boost this season. I’ve been enjoying this one late morning before heading outside for the day. The taste also reminds me of the Echinacea Sunrise juice 😉

Proclamation Ale x Fully Rooted Collaboration

We were psyched when our friends at Proclamation reached out to us to collaborate. Just before the shut down we did a tour, marveled at their equipment and facility and built a bond over quality beverages with their incredibly talented team. It was an extra treat to chat with their founder, Dave who met us and genuinely wanted to hear our story and learn about what we do. We were pretty impressed and exciting to launch the collab, then covid hit.

Throughout that period we kept in touch and shared well wishes and flavor notes. Though they continued to pivot and work their way through covid, sadly, the Proclamation family experienced an unbearable loss of their founder, Dave.

We feel honored to have met Dave and to release this collaboration with the Proclamation team. We look forward to watching them continue to grow beyond the obstacles they’ve been faced with.

This collab also couldn’t have come at a better time as we’re all ready for a little sunshine. Here’s what surfaced…

Watermelon Symbiosis: Oak Aged Foeder Beer blended with our signature Yerba Mate Kombucha and our summer cult-classic Watermelon Slice. You’ll taste mouth watering, sweet watermelon with undertones of zingy kombucha flavors. Available now at Proclamation Ale Company.

Kombucha Dessert Reduction

It was our first time experimenting with a kombucha reduction. It was a sticky, syrup like consistency and drizzled well over freshly baked brownies and vanilla bean ice cream. We used the Love Elixir kombucha as it has notes of cacao and rose which married well to the gooey, chocolate of the warm brownie.

Here’s How:

2 16 oz. bottle of kombucha

Yields 2 oz. of reduction

  1. In a pan, pour two bottles of Love Elixir kombucha.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Simmer on low for 20-30 minutes or until syrup consistency.
  4. Enjoy over ice cream, waffles or as a glaze.

DIY Cream Soda Kombucha Floats

Summertime nostalgia is slowly setting in. While we’re all grappling with current issues of our time–exerting energy protesting, learning, educating and listening. It is essential to fill up your cup, both literally and figuratively!

Here’s how:
1. Choose one bottle of your favorite kombucha. We recommend using our Cream Soda Kombucha made with organic lemon balm, organic vanilla, Vermont maple syrup, local honey, dried fig and ashwagandha (an adaptogen used for stress and anxiety).

2. Place one heaping scoop of vanilla bean ice cream (non-dairy or dairy-free!) into a tall glass.

3. Top with bubbly kombucha of your choosing.

4. Garnish with fresh mint and float on. Best enjoyed with your booch bud.

4-Ingredient Cacao Cookies

These 4-ingredient cacao cookies are a Fully Rooted favorite. This recipe can literally be prepped in minutes. Enjoy these healthy, snackable cookies that are not only delightful, they’re a healthier cookie alternative.

Here’s what you need:

1 cup gluten free oats (we used Bob’s Red Mill)

2 organic bananas, mashed

2 Tbsp. nut butter, unsweetened

1/4 cup of Hu Chocolate Gems (made with coconut sugar) or substitute for cacao nibs for a sugar-free option

How to:

Pre-heat oven to 400. Use a bowl to finely mash up banana using a fork, mix in oats, peanut butter and gently fold in chocolate gems (or cacao nibs). If mix feels too watery and less like a cookie-dough consistency, sprinkle in more oats. Once mixed, roll into cookie balls and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until bottom is golden brown.

Pro Tip: Use silpat on your cookie tray for an even quicker cleanup!

Make it Oatmeal Raisin: Substitute chocolate chips for raisins and sprinkle in 1 tsp. of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract for quick oatmeal raisin cookies.

This recipe was created for you by our Fully Rooted test kitchen, made to nourish your body. We believe in whole ingredients without sacrificing taste and texture. Enjoy!

Elevate Your Immune System with Ginger & Reishi

We brew Kombucha for its health benefits, taste, and the work it’s doing to our gut. Each new flavor we introduce is specifically designed to be beneficial to our bodies but also provides a pure, artisanal taste.

So we present to you Ginger Reishi, a fusion of Ginger, locally grown Reishi mushroom and organic, caffeine-free Nettle tea.

As the seasons change and we put our bathing suits away, we welcome busy schedules and colder weather. A potential way to keep our immune systems elevated is with Reishi mushroom. Reishi mushroom contains chemicals that seem to have a variety of potentially beneficial effects, including activity against tumors (cancer) and beneficial effects on the immune system. Long ago in China, Reishi mushrooms were referred to as the “mushrooms of immortality”. This may sound a little melodramatic but new research suggests there are correlations with using the mushroom for improving immune function in select studies.

Ginger takes this kombucha to a whole other level. The comfort we find in the familiar flavor of ginger will satisfy your taste buds and keep you sipping. Ginger contains chemicals that may reduce nausea and inflammation. Researchers believe the chemicals work primarily in the stomach and intestines, but they may also work in the brain and nervous system to control nausea. The compilation of ingredients work together to create a multitude of benefits in each bottle we fill.

Keep yourself healthy as the new season strikes and try our new Ginger Reishi kombucha.

What is the wonder behind Wheatgrass?

For those of you who may not know what Wheatgrass is, it is a variety of grass that has been used as medicine due to it’s therapeutic and medicinal properties. It comes in various forms: freshly juiced, dried juice concentrate, or whole leaf powder sometimes in tablet form.

There are so many benefits to taking wheatgrass, but its most largely known roles are blood purification, liver detoxification, and colon cleansing. Other benefits include a boost in strength, endurance, spirituality, sense of well-being, aid in sore throat, tooth aches and gum healing, and neutralizing toxins from the body.

When you take a shot of fresh Wheatgrass juice, some say they feel the hair on the back of their neck stand straight up. There is amazing power to fresh grass juice that researchers still cannot explain to this day.

How Much Should I Take?
For good preventative measure, 4 ounces is what we like to recommend, but work your way up to that point first.  For beginners, we recommend 1-2 ounces per day.  For medicinal use, you should take 4-6 ounces or more per day.

Why Should I Believe You?
There have been many studies on grasses and their effectiveness on human health. Beyond that, the numerous success stories provide ample inspiration for wanting to pump yourself full of the stuff. Many people have turned to Wheatgrass after conventional medicine left them with no other option and it cured them within an amazingly short period of time. If you want to read about these stories, take a look at the book “Wheatgrass Nature’s Finest Medicine” by Steve Meyerowitz.

Wheatgrass Juice or Powder?
This question is commonly debated, but many testimonials will bring you to believe that Juice is the best way to consume Wheatgrass. Famous healer Dr. Ann Wigmore used juice to heal many people at the Hippocrates Institute. She was the person who popularized indoor tray grown Wheatgrass.

The reason here is that fresh live Wheatgrass Juice is a potent elixir of live enzymes which aid in the absorption of Wheatgrass in the body.  These enzymes help the body digest the many nutrients Wheatgrass contains. Wheatgrass Powder does have more nutrients because it has been concentrated so it will contain more minerals, chlorophyll and vitamins. With all the studies performed on Wheatgrass, there has been decided that there is an unknown healing factor to the live juice of which they call the grass-juice factor. This grass-juice factor is believed to be responsible for healing miracles. This leads us to believe that juice is the best way to consume Wheatgrass.

What’s in Wheatgrass?
“The blade of grass contains all the elements of which the body is composed including revitalizing and rebuilding materials, force producers for energy and also eliminators of waste acids. Grass and sprouts are perfect foods.” – Dr. Ann Wigmore

Some of the Nutrients found in Grass:
Amino Acids (over 18 types)
Enzymes (over 80 identified, many more unidentified)
Phytochemicals (Chlorophyll, Carotenoids, Bioflavenoids, growth hormones, RNA, DNA)
Vitamins (Vitamin C, E, A, B1, B3, B6, K, Biotin, Choline, Folic Acid)
Minerals and Trace Minerals (Zinc, Selenium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Boron, Chloride, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Nickel, Soium, Sulfur, and many, many more)
Fatty Acids (Linolenic Acid, Linoleic Acid)

“15 Pounds of Wheatgrass is equivalent to 350 pounds of the choicest vegetables” – Charles F. Schnabel

So… Why not take Wheatgrass?

“The primary form of food is grass. Man’s most primeval nutrient, that which nourished him for hunderds of thousands of years, until technological civilization brought with it sprouts, and tender grasses that flourished all over the earth.  When man dies, he goes to grass again, and so the tide of life, with everlasting repitition, in continuous circles, moves endlessly on and upward, and in more senses than one, all flesh is grass.” – Edmond Bordeauz Szekely

How did we start out?

We’d like to tell you a quick story about how we started out on this journey of juicing and why it became known as Fully Rooted.

Back in 2010, our dear friend Steve (the bald guy above) saw the documentary called A Beautiful Truth. Steve had been struggling with rheumatoid arthritis for over 30 years, which required many prescriptions and doctor’s appointments.  This documentary introduced him to the story of Dr. Gerson and how he healed many diseases through juicing and diet. That very next day, he was gifted a juicer!  6 months later, Steve was off all medications!  He influenced others to experience the power of juicing including us.

Fast forward to March 2013 and you would find us at Grace Yoga’s open house (pictured above).  The idea was formed between Judy and Steve to sell juice in effort to raise money for the studio.  We had custom shirts, a beautiful table display, official-looking brochures, and a couple juice options. People responded extremely well to our presence and we were often asked, “where are you guys located?”, which still happens to this very day.  The rest is history, as they say.  We juiced at a yoga event following Grace Yoga which ultimately proved to us that we had what it took to start an official juice venture!

We are so grateful for everyone’s support over the years and look forward to consistently growing and spreading the idea of juicing for good health and healing to as many people as possible.

Om Shanti,
the Fully Rooted Team
